The rewrite that never comes and you keep building on top of that week project for years to come.


This is a failure as a developer. A full rewrite is almost never a good idea. You should be fixing things as you go, and making things better. It’s your job to spread the load and say “I need X days to do some extra work because Y isn’t working properly”, and stand your ground. I worked on a project that had hard deadlines every 2 weeks and shipped an unreliable amount of cruft. Even we had time to say “no, sorry”.

Besides if the project succeeds for years then joy might have made the right choice cutting corners.
