How on earth can you write a compiler if you don't understand anything about assembly?


The target language doesn't have to be assembly or machine code.

Plus, that's just one of several steps, and not necessarily the most interesting.


Actually, the code generation part was the part that I found was the most interesting and challenging.

The best part of the fun was generating sequences of instructions that the assembly-language guys wouldn't write becase they were too confusing.
