No, that's not the issue; even if the "location" of my phone were defined as "the location of its base station" or even "the location of the telco's datacenter next city", the physical wires connecting these "fixed forwarding points" do not have to follow a direct line. The best path to the USA (which is to the north of here) is to first go south, then go through the submarine cable.


I'm failing to communicate. The location of your phone is whatever it is. Right now calling you involves mapping your phones ID, at various levels, to whatever network device can actually route data to it. The first level is phone number to ... I dunno, but every time i look into it I'm repelled by the baroqueness.
