If you check the docs for how to create a react app the first thing they recommend is to use next.js.

Oh interesting - I haven't been on their starting page in years. I'm surprised getting started with vite isn't higher up. That takes 5 minutes and doesn't require a full framework.

That said, starting with react router or expo is probably the right call depending on the project needs. Routing is not something you want to do yourself, and react native is pretty unfriendly without expo

Have you ever wondered where the people who make less than $70k/year live?

No, I know people who make that much.

They are either married or have roommates and spend roughly %20 of their income on housing.

At $140k/year that works out to about $2300/month.

There are also countries outside the US. Rent is different per country and region and lifestyle and age range and a whole bunch of other factors

I worked for a court and a judge asked me to make a website with a button that would show a green circle 95% of the time and a red circle 5% of the time. I didn't ask what it was used for.

Probably red means add an extra couple of years to the sentence.

Reminds me of https://xkcd.com/221/

Toonami Aftermath is very similar to this, but for late 90s/early 2000s.

I have a similar workflow. I’m the only programmer in my office and just use git to make my life easier.

If you have to have a full time I would find one that has a lot of downtime so you can work on other things while on the clock.

Yes, I was always interested in computers and video games but never thought to try programming until looking at a list of careers and deciding to study CS.

The first language I learned was Java. It’s one of my least favorite languages now but I think it was good enough to learn the fundamentals.

Same! Java was the first language we were taught. I was like, "Wow!" Then we learned C, whereupon I got hooked on that and renounced Java and OOP forever as cringe for reasons I can't fully articulate (apart from the obvious bloat).

13” CRT tv for video game tournaments and LAN parties

Yes. It was the first web language I learned and I haven't had a reason to switch to something else. I tried learning nodeJS and django but I didn't like how much setup was required to get a page up.

I think I saw someone mention HN in a reddit comment about 10 years ago.
