I too miss those days.

What's stopping us?

We're all older and we need reading glasses now? ;-)

Amazing

I only know of small farmers who name their livestock, but that was back in the States.

Compared to US-scale farming, I'd guess most Norwegian farmers are "small".

Indeed. When the 1988 study was done, which resulted in the book of cow names among other things, there were about 360k cows in Norway total, and the average number of cows per farm was ~5.6.

These days the number has risen, IIRC around 35, though that's still quite a low number compared to larger countries I imagine. I'm pretty sure the variance is quite high however, with a fair number of farms with just a few cows dragging down the mean.

Recently I decided to build the next version of my website by going back to the basics. http://kyle.simukka.com

Still unsure of what the content and goals are, but it has been a lot of fun to work on a very simple website.

tempting

Welcome to the club! I'm not sure if it's a good club to begin with, but at least the USA isn't alone with its current political status.

I'm interested in the root cause.

Console operations and architecture for HA is one of my current responsibilities. It's important to me that customers can depend on a functional, responsive, and stable console.

I think the console experience heavily influences the trust and overall customer experience of any service.

100% agree. I wanted to record some screencasts of the interface today and it is a little inconvenient. However, Google has an extremely robust post mortem process and I am sure they will correct things so this specific event does not happen again [1, 2]. They will typically post some type of public boiled down version of the post mortem too. Hopefully that happens in this case!

Sorry for the interruption. I'm not sure how much information we'll be able to share publicly, but there will definitely be an internal PM once the incident is resolved.

Yeah, I'm sure there is a healthy omg happening right now :)

I haven't read the post yet, but I did read this comment and wanted to share some of my thoughts.

A real job can mean a lot of things to different people. For example, I consider my volunteer time as a board member at a non-profit organization to be a real job. Currently, It doesn't directly pay for my financial needs, but it pays in other ways.

I think that it's important to acknowledge, recognize, and respect people for who they are, and what they are experiencing.

The words we choose to use can have a significant impact.

I hope you enjoy your weekend!

I tend to agree.

I agree. The previous UI was much better.

The new UI feels like a roomful of fresh graduates designed it.

I think my brain has linked together modern ui with slow, broken and full of tracking. I think there might be nothing really wrong with the actual UI of reddit but its all the other things that got lumped in with the redesign.

Every time I see an old looking website or program its almost a refreshing feeling that it isn't going to try to suck money and data from me.

Big +1. Also design that favors metrics. Why did they include this one thing? Why did they remove the other? They're probably pushing you to use the site in a way that increases time spent on site by xx%.
