If the team needs some data on bloated, slow software and bad practices, they can create an account on gitlab.com and look around for a few minutes.

Yes it's still popular in some places, and lots of new development is going on. Xen is superior to KVM in my opinion.

I'd actually _like_ to use Xen, but as far as I can see is just dead in all but name.

To name one example, nested virtualization support is not only hopelessly broken, it's MORE broken in recent releases than it was a decade ago. You can see right here how the feature kept getting broken by every other release until nothing worked anymore: https://wiki.xenproject.org/wiki/Nested_Virtualization_in_Xe....

And Xen is literally the only virtualizer out there that does not support nested virtualization, which is a rather critical feature since many (dev) stacks assume one has hardware virtualization, and Windows is going to require it sooner than later.

Xen Project is far being dead (there's a lot of activity in the mailing list, and now, thanks to new contributors like Vates/XCP-ng, there's also more initiatives to have a decent project tracking, see https://gitlab.com/groups/xen-project/-/epics?state=opened&p... for example).

Regarding nested virt, you are mostly right: it's only "working-ish" for basic things, but indeed, it's broken when you start to use anything heavy in your nested VM. The main reason nobody fixed it is because it's not really used: as any other open source project, you find what you need if you contribute. Obviously, as soon someone will need this and willing to contribute, it will change :)

If nested virtualization isn't used by their main customers I'm not sure it's that critical to them

>> [..] Windows is the platform most targetted by spyware, viruses, and ransomware.

Neither spyware, virus or ransomware has slowed my computer to a halt as much as using GitLab.

Let's hope this won't be one of those insufferable woke reboots, like most other reboots the industry has shit out in recent years.

What are the views on SSRIs prescribed for OCD and anxiety? The dosage for these conditions is much larger than for depression, often ten times or more.

> [...] this generation of old and frightful people finally resigns [...]

If you thought that replacing these people with the generation than invented "trigger warnings", and demands removal/cancelling of anything remotely uncomfortable would be the end of mass surveillance, then you're going to be disappointed. I think we will get much more instead.

This meme needs to die of old people not understanding tech and privacy ramifications. Privacy is a concern for all generations, and you only have to look at history to know privacy’s importance. (Stasi anyone?). Branding all older generations as not ‘with it’ is ageist and counterproductive. If any generation is more concerned about digital rights and freedom it’s the older generation. Kids these days are feeding from the trough of surveillance capitalism and are sleepwalking into an Orwellian nightmare.

Saying that about young people is also ageism

The real battle is class, the capital owning class wants to control the working class and that's why we get these laws

They spread propaganda and write legislation through think tanks in the US, I can only assume there are similar mechanisms in the EU

Happy to be in the 6.8% group. Started on the carnivore diet about 7 years ago. I had been a vegan for years before that, but my health deteriorated badly because of this. I also exercise and fast regularly. I have never been in better health, and this is confirmed with blood work every 6 months.

I’m amazed at how well carnivore works for me. I started a few days ago. Before that I’d been throwing up 5+ times a day, every day, for months. My doctor shrugged and had no idea what to do. Even Zofran didn’t help.

Well that indeed sounds amazing. Great that you are already feeling better.

Because of my past, I'm often contacted by recovering ex-vegans in my area. I immediately get them started on the carnivore diet and within a week or two, most will come back, often with tears in their eyes, to tell me that they finally begin to feel normal again, really a joy to experience.

How do you know? Did you see the metrics that were used and compare them with your bloodwork? This reads as low-effort anecdata.

EU sanctions against Russia seems to punish the EU citizens much more than they ever did Russia.

Did that for years, ruined both my health and teeth. No thanks.

I've heard it doesn't work for everyone. I've been vegan for 19 years and am fine

You've been vegan for 19 years but does that mean you haven't had any meat or animal products in those 19 years?

Because from what I understand, most vegans do eat at least some meat and animal products once in a while. "Breaking vegan" they call it. And it's OK to do it as long as you're vegan, otherwise it's not right and you're a murderer.

Because only being vegan is an ethical stance. Where being vegan of course means posting vegan memes on twitter and stuff like that.

Counter point: For me, vegan diet is not only obnoxious, but also dangerous. Years as a vegan wrecked my health and permanently my teeth. Carnivore was the way out of this downward spiral for me.

Sorry to hear that. I won't try to fault your experience, just state its not a given this is the case for everyone. I have been a vegan for 16 years now. I would say I am in excellent health. Each year I run several 100 mile mountain races along side training all year (running, swimming, hiking and biking), and will be attempting 258 miles non stop race for 5-6 days in the middle of the British winter 2023 (the montane spine race), so I must be doing something right. I very rarely get sick. I also manage a large team of engineers at work and have a young family.

Most likely you have no idea what you’re doing swinging from one fad diet to another.

If it makes you feel better you're welcome to believe that, but I'm sorry to inform you that this is not the case. However, my good health after many years on the carnivore diet is enough for me, I don't have the need to convince anyone.
