On the other hand, outcome-driven fitness (pursuing a goal like "i want to get shredded") never worked for me as well as process-focused.

I have strong legs not because that was a goal, but because I fell in love with cycling and never set ANY goals, just enjoyed getting out and riding my serotonin machine.

That might be more sustainable for some people, but if your interests/hobbies are constantly in flux (which mine are as well to an extent), maybe not. I need to find a way to enjoy the process of sleeping more.

I wish I could be like that. I'm more or less a result-driven person, but whenever a result is achieved (e.g. complete all xv6 labs) I became lost and frustrated, and was eager to find the next one. But my mind was usually burnt out during the previous process, so it usually takes a few months of frustration to get everything settled so that I could move on.

The "pinball" concept in "The Soul of a New Machine" rings very true to me -- "The motivational system is akin to the game of pinball, the analogy being that if you win this round, you get to play the game again." -- this is exactly what I feel. But the pinball game is more and more difficult, sometimes too difficult for my fragile mind -- and I still have a day job and a family to take care of.

Same here, I guess this mode caters to specific type of personality (not obsessive about goals, achievements, not constantly comparing against others - at least I am none of those).

I like going to gym for past 15 years, it feels great to do some free weights. Not destroy myself, just a good workout. Body adjusting/maintaining not-a-bad-shape is a nice bonus.

>Firefox doesn't allow you to bypass its marketplace and load extensions that you build from source yourself

It's less than ideal but you can 1) load extensions temporarily in about:debugging, 2) turn off xpinstall.signatures.required in nightly or dev edition to install them for good or 3) sign on addons.mozilla.org without publishing to the marketplace.

Or 4) patch the checks out yourself. As they say, "Firefox is open-source for a reason."

It might actually be something I would do especially as I could probably vibe code and vibe build it.

Will see if I get time to do so.

It's not "missing" the cream, it's intentionally homogenized by mechanically disrupting the fat globules.

They didn't say during pregnancy. Cows only produce milk after giving birth to a calf, so they're regularly inseminated.

I think a lot of people don't realize we're hijacking their reproductive systems, instead assuming cows constantly produce milk.

One could argue there's more suffering in a glass of milk than a steak, which makes ethical vegetarianism flawed despite its good intentions.

What I find quite bizarre that in India (where I am from) milk is considered ethically vegetarian whereas unfertilized chicken eggs are not.

But the weirdest experience I have ever had was at the main Google cafeteria. One gentleman with a steak on his fresh plate was quizzing the attendant at length to be sure that the mashed potato was vegan. After many months of thinking I found a plausible reason.

I know a number of people who have allergies to some animal products (notably eggs or dairy). Given the growing familiarity with (and catering to) vegan diets, they find it much easier to use "is it vegan" as a shortcut to "can I eat this" rather than interrogate food workers about specific ingredients.

We both must be close to the truth which we will never know. My guess was that he was lactose intolerant.

Carnivorous potatoes aren't as tasty?

If you like arena shooters, Xonotic is quite remarkable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xonotic

Oh, yeah! And I believe there are not many games which have Linux, Windows and MacOS versions allowing interplay. Several years ago we had one or two LAN parties with hardware running all three operating systems.

Wait, is it expected for them to be able to change? According to this SO answer [0] it's only really possible through GDB or "nasty hacks" as there's no API for it.

The process itself (including other threads) can call setenv whenever it wants.

That's a fermented food too!

The "author" sure did...

Luckily they're not changing that part.
