World has given free pass to certain countries or has no guts to question their actions and just close eyes, close ears, close mouth, like Gandhi's 3 monkeys.
I think more than the problem with the "world" you have in mind, that is the western "democratic" capitalistic junta, there is a problem with the people in the west in general, seeing how many people are interested in this issue on this forum and elsewhere.
Anyone paying enterprise billing can you shed some light how on the earth you will be able to fund this bill going forward?
Were you able to see assisted AI coding savings proportional to costs increase now you are going to get?
Companies removed people as AI assisted coding will be cheaper and now coding cost are going up from fixed $X to non-deterministic. The posts by Uber few days back about spending 12 months' worth of money in 4 months tells a lot.
Only path forward seems using Open-source models and many companies don't use Chinese that makes only Mistral one as the option.
Surely one path is to return to humans. We can accept that a profit grab to reduce staff numbers to maximise profits, maybe was never the best plan without being in control of the development tool.
It's just matter of time that price become so high that Enterprise cannot afford these tools unless they self-host open models. Only problem is open models are coming from China and not many countries trust that to use inside companies. How will it play?
Looks like the Chinese are, again, winning the long game.
There is simply nothing that could compete with their open models. At the same time more and more corps got "AI addicted", so they will either have to pay ridiculous amounts of money, or use the Chinese stuff.
You are right about addiction; the instant gratification is on peak with tools like Claude. I use $200 plan and my token usage for last 30 days is 30M , If I do basic math, it will be equivalent to $1500. Assuming companies get 50% discount, still that cost is too much multiplier.
My usage might be outliner here, but 200->400 is an average case.
I am in 40s and going to be made redundant this June. In future only people who can afford to keep things like Claude, OpenAI and most importantly create value using them more than what others can do be able to survive. Otherwise, game is more or less over, and I question what's next for my own future while I learn to use Claude in FOMO. I cannot trust Sam or others if they will have any interest to keep this tech affordable for common people like me.
